Wet diamond core bits for concrete and reinforced concrete
A wet diamond core bit drills using water: this cools the diamond segments, flushes the drill cuttings out of the cut and binds the dust, ensuring the bit remains sharp and the area clean. This is the standard method for concrete and reinforced concrete, as the segments vitrify when drilled dry. Our wet diamond core bits are available in 33 diameters ranging from 16 to 500 mm – from cable passages to building entry points – with a working length of 450 mm and laser-welded segments that can also cut through reinforcement.
1 1/4" UNC shank for core drilling machines
The wet diamond core bit has a 1 1/4" UNC thread and therefore fits directly onto the spindle of our core drilling machines; it is suitable for hand-held models from the 202 series upwards and for all stand-mounted machines. An adapter is available for machines with M16 or M18 threads. The size at which the bit must be mounted in the stand is specified for the core drilling machines: hand-held up to 162 mm, and above that in the Core drilling rig.
Diameter, segment height and effective length
The diameter depends on the pipe or cable to be passed through the borehole, plus clearance for insulation and sealing. A working length of 450 mm is sufficient for external walls and ceilings; for thicker structural elements, an extension is required between the spindle and the core bit. The segment height represents the reserve of diamond coating and thus the service life; it is gradually worn away during drilling. A Pilot drill is not required when wet drilling in a stand; when drilling by hand, the centre point is helpful for core bits from 42 mm upwards.
Water supply and water collection ring
The water is supplied from the tap or from a water pressure tank with a pressure pump via the Gardena coupling on the machine. When drilling into walls and ceilings, a water collection ring catches the water, which is then extracted by a wet vacuum. Without a collection ring, the drilling water runs down the wall along with the slurry.
