Circular saw blades with carbide teeth for wood, aluminium and plastic
A circular saw blade with carbide-tipped teeth, known as TCT or Widia, stays sharp many times longer than a blade made from tool steel and can be resharpened. Our circular saw blades are suitable for mitre saws, cross-cut saws and hand-held circular saws with blade diameters ranging from 165 to 305 mm, with a 20 or 30 mm bore, for hardwood and wood-based panels as well as for aluminium and plastic.
Circular saw blades for wood: rip cuts, cross cuts, fine cuts
For wood, the tooth shape is key. Our professional TCT circular saw blade in 165, 190, 216, 254 and 305 mm features the ATB alternating tooth pattern: teeth bevelled alternately to the left and right, which cut cleanly through the grain without tearing the edge. This is the blade for cross-cuts on a mitre saw, for coated panels and for mouldings and frames that remain visible. Damping slots in the blade reduce noise and vibration.
Circular saw blade for aluminium and plastic
Aluminium profiles, plastic panels and composite boards require a fine pitch and a negative or flat rake angle to prevent the blade from chipping into the soft material. Our 254 mm TCT circular saw blade for aluminium and plastic has 80 teeth and a 30 mm bore; the fine pitch ensures clean edges on profiles and panels. Aluminium should be fed slowly and sawn using cutting wax.
Tooth shape and number explained
| Teeth on the 254 mm blade | Cutting | For |
|---|---|---|
| 24 to 40 | coarse, fast | Longitudinal cuts in solid timber, construction timber |
| 48 to 60 | clean | Cross-cuts, boards, cross-cut saw |
| 80 and above | fine | Aluminium, plastic, coated sheets |
Fewer teeth remove large chips and cut quickly; many teeth cut cleanly and slowly. The ATB alternating-tooth blade is for wood, the flat-tooth blade for rip cuts, and the trapezoidal flat-tooth blade for aluminium and laminate. A blunt carbide blade is re-ground by the sharpening service, usually several times.
Compatible with the saw: diameter, bore, cutting width
The diameter must match that of the saw; the spindle bore is 30 mm on most cross-cut and table saws, and 20 mm on small hand-held circular saws; reducer rings compensate for any difference. The cutting width should match the saw’s riving knife; if it is too narrow, it will jam; if too wide, it will overload the motor. The saw must not exceed the maximum speed specified for the blade.
