Industrial dehumidifiers for new builds, refurbishments and drying out after water damage
An industrial dehumidifier extracts the water from the air in the room that is released by the screed, plaster and masonry as they dry out. In new-build projects, it reduces the waiting time before flooring can be laid; following water damage, it dries walls and floors before mould can develop; and in the cellar, it keeps humidity below the level at which musty odours begin to develop. Our industrial dehumidifiers remove 60, 80 or 158 litres of moisture from the air each day and can be easily moved from one building site to another on their wheels.
Industrial dehumidifiers or domestic dehumidifiers: the difference
Technically, both work in the same way; both are condensation dryers. The difference lies in the capacity and the housing. A domestic dehumidifier removes 10 to 20 litres a day, has a small tank and a plastic casing. An industrial dehumidifier handles many times that amount, runs round the clock, has a condensate pump or drain, wheels and an operating hours counter for rental billing. If you’re looking for a room dehumidifier for your home, you’ll usually need the smaller model. Anyone drying screed, walls or a damp cellar will need the larger one.
How a room dehumidifier removes moisture from the air
A fan draws the damp air from the room over a cooled coil. There, the water condenses – just as it does on a cold bottle in summer – and drips into the container or to the pump. The dry, slightly warmed air is returned to the room and absorbs further moisture from the walls and floor. The warmer the room, the more water the air carries and the faster the unit dries out the space. At low room temperatures, the coil may ice up; the BT-80 and BT-158XL models feature an automatic de-icing function for this. Once the target humidity is reached, the unit switches off and switches back on if the humidity rises.
Dehumidifier with condensate pump or tank
| Unit | Dehumidification | Room size | Airflow | Condensate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BT-60 | 60 l/day | 40 to 60 m² | 350 m³/h | 6-litre container or hose to the drain |
| BT-80 | 80 l/day | 60 to 80 m² | 1,000 m³/h | Condensate pump, 2 m head |
| BT-158XL | 158 l/day | 80 to 100 m² | 1,200 m³/h | Condensate pump, 2 m delivery head |
The tank must be emptied; the BT-60 stops with an audible alarm when the tank is full. The condensate pump delivers the water to a height of 2 m; the hose can be extended to 20 m, allowing the unit to run for days on end without supervision. All three models feature an operating hours counter and fault diagnostics displayed as a code on the screen.
Buying an industrial dehumidifier: dehumidification capacity, room size, power consumption
Three steps to finding the right dehumidifier:
- Measure the area. The BT-60 is suitable for up to 60 m², the BT-80 for up to 80 m² and the BT-158XL for up to 100 m². If the screed is wet or there’s water damage, choose the next size up – this will speed up the drying process.
- Decide who will remove the water. If no one is on site every day, you’ll need the condensate pump.
- Take the running time into account. An industrial dehumidifier runs round the clock for days or even weeks; electricity consumption can be tracked via the operating hours meter, which also forms the basis for passing on the costs to the client.
