Floor saws for concrete and asphalt

A floor saw uses a diamond cutting disc to cut straight joints in concrete and asphalt surfaces: expansion joints in fresh concrete slabs, cut joints prior to breaking up for utility trenches, edges during road repairs, and channels in hall floors. The machine runs on four wheels; the blade is set to the required depth using a handwheel and is cooled with water. Our SuperCut 500X floor saw cuts to a depth of up to 190 mm with blades up to 500 mm in diameter.

Cutting expansion joints and cutting grooves

Fresh concrete cracks as it shrinks if it does not have a predetermined breaking point. The expansion joint is therefore cut to a depth of one quarter to one third of the slab thickness one day after concreting, in a pattern specified by the structural engineer. When breaking up the surface, a cutting joint is made in front of the excavator to ensure the edge remains straight and the surface next to it does not break away. In both cases, guidance is key: the front guide wheel runs along the marking, whilst the handwheel with depth indicator is set to zero when scoring and subsequently displays the actual cutting depth.

Petrol, diesel or electric

Floor saws are available with petrol, diesel and electric motors. Electric models are for indoor premises and underground car parks where exhaust fumes are a concern; diesel models are for large roadworks sites; and petrol models are for everything in between: no cables, no diesel tank, ready for use anywhere. Our SuperCut 500X has a 4-stroke petrol engine with 11.7 kW (16 PS) and a 25-litre Water pressure tank on board; it can cut even where there is no water supply. We do not stock diesel or electric floor saws.

Suitable diamond cutting discs up to 500 mm

The blade determines cutting performance and service life. There are specific segments for concrete – including reinforced concrete – and for asphalt; the blade is used wet, and the bore on the SuperCut 500X is 25.4 mm. With a 500 mm diameter, the SuperCut 500X achieves its 190 mm cutting depth; smaller blades cut shallower and run more smoothly. Our 500 mm diamond cutting blades are available for concrete and for asphalt.

Buying a floor saw: cutting depth, motor, water connection

Narrow down your choice based on three factors:

  1. Cutting depth: slab thickness or surface thickness plus a margin; 190 mm covers road surfaces and industrial floors.
  2. Engine: Petrol for construction sites without electricity; the parking brake holds the machine in place when starting work, whilst the emergency stop shuts down the engine immediately.
  3. Water: a separate tank for open-air use; a hose connection for indoor use.

For transport, the guide arm folds in; the machine becomes 700 mm shorter and has a lifting eye.
