LED construction site lighting for building sites and events

When darkness falls, construction site lighting determines whether work can continue. A construction site lamp on a tripod is sufficient for indoor use, but for roadworks, night shifts in hall construction, winter construction sites and events, light masts and balloon lights are required to illuminate an entire area. Our LED construction site lights range from Led balloon lamps with 83,200 lumens at 230 V to lighting masts with their own power generator and 212,000 lumens covering 4,000 m². For events, we also stock the LED Poster P1.8/GOB, a linkable LED display for images and video.

Lighting mast with generator for large areas

Our MLT 4x400/6000 lighting mast carries four LED floodlights at a mast height of 4.5 m, each individually tiltable, so that the work area, access route and storage area are all illuminated simultaneously. The 6 kW petrol generator mounted on the trolley powers the floodlights and supplies electricity for tools; it can be detached and used separately on its own wheels. Features include a remote control, an energy-saving switch with load-dependent speed control, a low-oil shut-off and a winch brake; the trolley is fitted with a crane bracket and lashing eyes for transport.

Balloon lamp: glare-free light from 230 V

A balloon lamp diffuses light through a fabric balloon over a full 360 degrees without causing glare. It is positioned in the centre of the work area, so nobody is looking directly into a spotlight. Our BL-640 balloon lights, producing 83,200 lumens from 640 W, and BL-1000 models, producing 130,000 lumens from 1,000 W, illuminate areas of up to 2,600 m², at 5,000 Kelvin, from any 230 V socket or a generator. The crank-operated tripod raises the mast to the required height using a hand crank; the brightness control provides as much light as the job requires; IP54 rating and a protective grille keep out dust and rain; it operates in winds of up to 36 km/h. The light and tripod are packed in two carry bags; the BL-1000 weighs 25 kg.

How many lumens does a construction site need?

The ASR A3.4 workplace regulation specifies values for outdoor building sites ranging from 20 lux for walkways, 50 to 100 lux for rough and medium-rough work, and up to 200 lux for precision assembly work. Lumen is the luminous flux of the light; lux is the amount of light reaching a surface – roughly calculated as lumens divided by square metres. 83,200 lumens over 2,600 m² equates to around 30 lux; over 800 m², it’s a good 100 lux. The small balloon lamp is more than adequate for walkways and earthworks; for assembly work, it can be moved closer, or the BL-1000 can be used.

Buying construction site lighting: installation height, power supply, transport

Three questions:

  1. Is there a power supply? If 230 V is available on site, the balloon light will suffice. If there’s no power, use a lighting mast with a generator, which can also power tools.
  2. How large is the area? Up to 2,600 m²: a balloon light; up to 4,000 m²: a light mast; for large areas, two lights at the edges instead of one in the centre.
  3. How is the light transported? The balloon light fits into two bags in the boot; the light mast is transported as a trolley with a crane boom on a trailer or flatbed.
