Vacuum fixing

Using a vacuum, you can secure the core drilling rig to the floor and wall without having to drill holes for wall plugs. Our vacuum pump, with a capacity of 113 l/min and a pressure of 0.7 bar, the vacuum plate for stands with a groove or borehole, and the V-stands with built-in vacuum plates are all designed to work together. A pressure gauge indicates when drilling can commence.

Vacuum fixing for core drilling rigs without dowels

Where dowel holes are not permitted – on finished floors, tiles, natural stone or exposed concrete – the core drilling rig is held in place by vacuum. A vacuum pump extracts the air from beneath the base plate; the air pressure presses the stand against the surface. Once drilling is complete, the vent valve releases the plate without the need for force, leaving only the drill hole behind.

Vacuum pump and vacuum plate

Our VP-113/PRO vacuum pump delivers 113 l/min and 0.7 bar of negative pressure when connected to a 230 V mains supply; a pressure gauge indicates when drilling can commence, whilst a thermal switch cuts the power in the event of overheating; whilst the water separator keeps drilling fluid out of the pump. The coiled hose is around 4 m long, and the pump is positioned away from the drilling site. The tank serves as a carrying handle; weighing 14.3 kg and fitted with four feet, it stands securely. The VGP-420/PRO vacuum plate has a base area of 335 x 420 mm, two handles and a mounting kit for stands with a groove or borehole. It supports a system weight of up to 25 kg, with a drilling diameter of up to 162 mm on the floor and up to 102 mm on the wall. Our V-stands, the IDS252/V-PRO and IDS352/V-PRO, already have the vacuum base plate integrated into the base and only require the pump.

Surfaces on which the vacuum holds

A vacuum holds on flat, smooth, clean and airtight surfaces. On rough concrete, masonry, plaster and cracked surfaces, the pump draws in air and the vacuum collapses. In such cases, you’ll need to use wall plugs. Drilling should only commence once the pressure gauge reads at least 0.7 bar, and only in floors and walls. Vacuum must not be used on ceilings, as a loss of pressure would cause the stand and the equipment to fall.

Suitable core drilling rigs

The vacuum plate fits under core drilling rigs with a groove or bore in the base; the threaded rod pulls the rig onto the plate. For IDS stands with a built-in vacuum base plate, the pump alone is sufficient; these stands are also available as core drilling systems with a soft-hammer drill. Spare O-rings for the seal are included in the fixing kit.
