T-REX underfloor heating milling machine for cutting heating pipe grooves up to 25 mm deep, with dust extraction or wet cutting

The T-REX is our underfloor heating milling machine with its own drive system: Grooves 13 to 17 mm wide and up to 25 mm deep, 4,000-watt spindle at 400 V, feed rate up to 7.5 m/min, with dust extraction or wet operation, for cement and anhydrite screeds and concrete.

Substrates and groove dimensions

The T-REX cuts the grooves for the heating pipes directly into the existing floor, in cement and anhydrite screeds as well as in concrete; the cutting disc determines which floor types are suitable. Short overhangs and the position of the disc allow it to mill close to walls and in room corners, up to 120 mm from the wall. The groove width depends on the heating pipe: 15 mm for 14 mm pipes, 16 or 17 mm for 16 mm pipes. Milling is only carried out indoors, not in wet rooms such as bathrooms or utility rooms.

Motor, cutting depth and dust extraction

A 4,000-watt motor drives the spindle at 8,300 rpm at no load; two separate feed motors, each rated at 350 watts, move the machine through the groove at speeds of up to 7.5 m/min. It is connected via a CEE plug to a 400 V supply, with a 30 mA residual current circuit breaker fitted upstream. For dry milling, an industrial vacuum cleaner must be connected to the extraction port; for wet milling, water is supplied via the Gardena coupling, with a ball valve regulating the flow. One of these is mandatory, as the milling dust is harmful to health.

Additional functions

• Electric depth adjustment with display: The disc moves up and down via a switch; the display resets to zero when the disc makes contact with the ground and then shows the milling depth in millimetres or inches. If disc wear alters the depth, it can be readjusted at the touch of a button; there is no perforated plate to reposition.
• Independently adjustable feed wheels: Each wheel has its own speed control dial. This ensures the machine travels in a straight line, even if it pulls to one side, and navigates bends by adjusting one side at a time.
• Laser pointer: Projects a beam of light onto the floor in front of the machine. If guided along the marking, the groove will be exactly where it is supposed to be.

Safety features

• Emergency stop button: Shuts down the spindle motor immediately; to unlock, turn the knob.
• Feed buttons on both handles: The machine moves via a button on each of the left and right control handles; both hands remain on the machine, and releasing the buttons stops the feed.
• Covers: The milling disc, spindle drive and feed drive are housed under their own covers.

Guidance, disc change and transport

The T-REX pulls itself through the groove, whilst the operator steers using the two handles. The milling disc is changed with the plug disconnected: remove the cover, hold the spindle in place with an 18 mm open-ended spanner, loosen the collar nut, and replace the disc. The machine can be rolled short distances whilst tilted backwards on two swivel castors. The upper part of the operating arm folds down for transport; for stairs and upper floors, the upper part and the spindle motor, weighing around 30 kg, can be removed.

Suitable milling discs and extraction system

The type of floor determines which of our milling discs is fitted to the spindle; all have a diameter of 130 mm and 12 T-shaped protective segments. For dry milling, our extraction units are also required:

• Diamond cup wheel with V-profile, Ø 130 mm: The standard disc for C30 concrete, cement and anhydrite screeds – in other words, the types of floor typically encountered during refurbishment of existing buildings – available in groove widths of 15, 16 and 17 mm.
• Diamond cup wheel for extremely hard concrete: For concrete in strength classes C40 to C45, in 15, 16 and 17 mm.
• Square diamond cup wheel, Ø 130 mm: With a square profile for C30 concrete, available in a 15 mm groove width.
• TS2000/PRO industrial vacuum cleaner: Recommended by us for dry milling, with two H13 main filters for fine mineral dust.
• Cyclone separator ZA60/PRO: Connected upstream of the vacuum cleaner, it captures coarse milling dust, meaning the filters clog more slowly.
